I Voted Today! (and here's how you can too)

September 17, 2019

It’s Dylan here, Director of Operations for the Jamie Schmale Campaign.

Elections Canada says you can vote any time during the election period, so I thought I’d go down to the Elections Canada office and see what happens.

Turns out the process is really simple.

Here in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, the Elections Canada office is at the Whitney Town Centre in Lindsay. (Unit 1A- 370 Kent St. W,- to be exact)

I told the nice folks I wanted to cast a “Special Ballot.”

After seeing my ID, they gave me a ballot.

Here’s the important part.

They instructed me to “write in the candidate’s name on the ballot.”

For me, that’s JAMIE SCHMALE.

It’s critical to put Jamie’s name on the ballot. If you write the party’s name only without the candidate’s name, they will consider it a “spoiled ballot” and your vote won’t count.

ID Requirements

The easiest thing is to use your Ontario Drivers Licence or any other government-issue photo ID that includes your current address.

If your photo ID does not contain your current address, you can use a variety of other documents, like a bank statement, utility bill, or student ID.

Voting Hours

I also phoned Elections Canada to find out what hours they’re open for voting. Here’s what they said:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon to 4:00 p.m.

This is the an important election. Why? Because we can’t afford to pay for another four years of Liberal blunders, mismanagement and scandals.

If you only do one thing this week, do this.

Vote.

Together, we can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Dylan Robichaud
Director of Operations
Jamie Schmale Campaign
